The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow – Gravitational Wave Astrophysics. This position will support the NANOGrav collaborative and its Physics Frontiers Center, with a focus on gravitational wave detection algorithm development. The incumbent will develop software for gravitational wave detection that will increase NANOGrav’s sensitivity and enable users throughout the world to analyze our data.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Develop gravitational wave detection code.
Apply detection code to the NANOGrav 11-year and 12.5-year data sets.
Possess skills in pulsar data analysis.
Possess skills in programming.
Use scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
Identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Document and present the results of research.
Write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format as well as use original or innovative techniques or style due to the nature of the scientific content of the material being presented.
PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field.
Experience in pulsar timing, code development, and data analysis
At least one year post-PhD research experience.
Direct experience with pulsar gravitational wave detection code development.
