Responsible for overall firmwide definition and management of the analysis, selection, acquisition, operations, and maintenance of computing platform and data center infrastructure technologies including but not limited to server, storage, network, cloud, enterprise backup, and disaster recovery / business continuity platforms. Coordinate internal and external resources to facilitate implementation and operation of these technologies within cost parameters. Work closely with other IT Directors and staff in the adoption and use of new technologies.
Envision and bring into use the computing platform of the future in line with Firm’s business and IT strategies.
Define, operate, optimize, and manage the Firm’s computing platform cost-effectively and to the highest levels of availability and security.
Create analyses that describe the business and technology case for platform changes and present them to colleagues and constituents to gain buy-in and support.
Conduct cost analyses related to platform changes and upgrades.
Effectively manage vendor relationships, equipment purchases and leasing, and associated contracts. Suggest alternative costing models that fully leverage infrastructure investments and reduce costs over time.
Define and implement appropriate technology platform strategies that leverage in-house, cloud, and hybrid architectures.
Identify best practices throughout the department and communicate and implement these practices on a firmwide level.
Effectively hire, manage, and mentor IT staff.
Provide project and change leadership to ensure all activities are consistent with firm policies and industry best practices.
Formulate recommendations, enact plans, and manage the documentation needed to build, maintain, and regularly test IT disaster recovery / business continuity capabilities for partial and complete system recovery.
Ensure proper notification to users for system events, including scheduled and non-scheduled downtime. Ensure IT management notification.
Coordinate internal and external resources, including IT members from other groups and offices, contract workers, vendors, and external service providers.
Through regular interaction with internal IT teams and industry experts and vendors, gain a full understanding of firm-specific business and technology needs (current and future) and relevant technology solutions.
Interact regularly with the CIO and other IT Directors are part of the IT Senior Management Team.
Serve on special teams, work groups, project teams, or escalation teams related to various firmwide IT initiatives.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in IT-related discipline; Master’s Degree preferred. Other relevant training, education, and certifications preferred.
Experience: At least 15 years experience in a technology leadership role. Demonstrated success in designing and operating effective and efficient global computing infrastructures. Significant experience with current and emerging server, LAN/WAN, SAN/NAS, network, messaging, and data center technologies.
Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and determine priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Able to adapt quickly and easily to change. Able to communicate effectively with all organizational levels, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to manage expectations and communicate deadlines/realities with tact and diplomacy. Able to manage projects within “big picture” context, and communicate same. Professional presence. Organized, energetic, aggressive, results oriented, and independent. Broad-based understanding of a variety of IT concepts. Able to lead multi-disciplinary teams toward a common goal.
