We are working with a privately held US steel producer to identify a Technical Manager of Metallurgy for one of their Pennsylvania facilities.
The primary role of the Technical Manager of Metallurgy is to work with customers to identify new opportunities, coordinate development of new applications, and develop product and process improvements in current and future product lines. In short, this person will be responsible for ensuring our client gains market share through new product development and expansion.
All candidates will have established experience in new product roll outs with a wide range of metals and grades. The ideal candidate will possess both an extremely strong technical prowess and business acumen. As a key technical contributor, the incumbent will be compensated generously.
Direct oversight of new product launches including coordination of activities with customers, manufacturing, and outside processing. This includes direct support of Quality Assurance activities and customer quality requirements.
Initiate, develop, and implement manufacturing plans, processes and procedures related to new products.
Initiate, develop, and implement plans that will improve existing process and product quality and consistency.
Directly responsible for process controls that pertain to the optimization of metallurgy and process.
Oversee Quality department including Chemistry laboratory.
Directly oversee, maintain, and drive improvement of the quality systems. This includes development of proper training materials.
Directly responsible for technical decisions about materials and suppliers used in our process.
Direct interaction with customers regarding quality, metallurgic, and other technical inquiries.
Actively promote cost reduction activities.
Support manufacturing flow improvements with a goal of minimizing process waste and increasing throughput.
A minimum of a BS degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science Engineering required.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in a steelmaking environment; raw materials and melt.
In-depth knowledge of metallurgy and casting; ingot or billet.
Established experience working directly with customers on custom products or new product launches.
Strong ability to perform statistical analysis of processes, and then drive sustainable process improvements and controls.
Genuine passion and enthusiasm for positive business and process changes with the goal of better servicing customers.
Willing and comfortable working in a diverse setting; laboratory, client interfacing, and “hands-on” in a mill environment.
Must be authorized to work permanently in the United States.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
