Forming part of our key Engineering team in our Pittsburgh Site, for our Rail Control Solutions (RCS) division, we are looking for a highly-driven Head of Project Engineering & Advance Engineering. In this role, you will manage projects and advance engineering for the Region; including providing technical support to sales, allocating resources to bids, reviewing bids to ensure that we are competitive, and making sure that the quality of the engineering documentation is consistently high. You will manage a team of Advance and Project engineers to (a) develop their competence, (b) provide them with direction and support on critical bids and execution issues, and (c) achieve synergies between projects for the overall benefit to the Region.
- Provides leadership and direction to the staff of engineers within the team. Ensures adherence to engineering processes to provide high quality designs that meet customer’s schedule and expectation. - Maintains close contact with staff on status of their work. Communicates and enforces the engineer’s responsibility for tracking their progress and adherence to budgeted hours through task planning. Develops action plans and coordinates resources to address and resolve problems as needed. - Ensures that the engineering team is focused on meeting the financial, schedule and technical requirements of the projects they are responsible for. - Develops the engineering team to achieve full potential and maximum contributions from the team. Creates and implements plans to improve employee skills, motivation and engagement. - Management and development of relevant skills (workforce planning, performance management, career development, succession planning and recruitment). - Ensures that advance engineering for pre-sales and bids is competitive and consistently high quality. Provides direct support as required, including presenting proposals and discussing with customers.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with strong technical engineering background in rail signalling with mainline and mass transit exposure. - A wealth of experience in managing complex railway signalling projects (preferably involving CBTC or ERTMS technology) through to successful delivery. - Proven track record of building internal project engineering teams with strong leadership and communication skills at all levels. - Demonstrable ability to encourage and facilitate change and continuous improvement initiatives. - Proven ability to influence, negotiate and build effective relationships with customers and internally across various departments. - Comfortable leading project teams across multiple sites globally handling complexity and limiting risk. - Strong commercial acumen with good planning ability to anticipate issues and proactively manage others to achieve targets. - Results driven approach and an enabler for change to take place.
Additional information: The incumbent of this position must be able to travel 20% to 30% of time (national and international).
