The Warehouse – Shipping Assistant performs the tasks associated with both mechanical and electrical assemblies and sub-assemblies in the inventory control – picking process for company products. The Assistant will be required to have good computer skills with ERP system background for inventory functions. This role requires good mechanical aptitude – understanding for the production precision parts and assemblies. This position reports to the Production Manager and team leader and is located in our assembly plant.
Duties and Responsibilities
Unload shipments from LTL (Less than Truckload) and parcel (UPS, FedEx) carriers.
Record the receipt and location of items via the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software (Jeeves).
Store the received items in the designated locations.
Verify and record the quantity on hand of each item received and stored (cycle count).
Review items to be picked in the ERP software (2-3 times daily).
Retrieve (pick) items from pallet racking and shelving. Package the items for parcel or LTL (palletize) shipment.
Retrieve (pick) items from pallet racking and shelving as required by the ERP software for work orders. Prepare “kits” of items and forward the items to the assembly areas.
Record the items picked in the ERP software.
Prepare the completed/assembled the machines for shipment to customer.
Repair or build custom pallet to fit the machine being shipped, as needed.
Secure the machine to the pallet via strapping/banding.
Cover/wrap the machine with clear plastic sheeting.
Design and build a “corral” for protection of the machine in shipment. Common dimensional (2” x 6”, 2” x 4”, 1” x 6”) lumber is used along with a chop saw and pneumatic nailers/staplers.
Attach all required paperwork to the shipment.
Work with truck carrier to pick-up requirement for LTL and TL shipments.
Load the shipment onto the carrier’s trailer using a forklift or pallet jack.
Scan and save all documentation to the proper computer file.
Computer keyboard skills for data entry and retrieval.
Ability to maintain accurate records of items in and out of inventory with the ERP software. This requires a consistent, sequential process. Priority changes are constant and can be distracting.
Comfortable operating forklifts and pallet jacks.
General carpentry skills.
Ability to determine pallet designs based on general guidelines, the footprint of the machine being shipped, and the available lumber and tools. Pallet sizes for machines range from 3’ for a 300# machine to 8’ sq. for a 17000# machine.
Verbally report progress and problems to the team leader in a professional manner;
Maintain a clean and safe work environment through a continued program of daily sweeping and general cleaning;
Be a positive team member with a good honest work ethic;

Qualifications and Work Experience
High School Diploma or GED;
Valid driver’s license for operation of company owned vehicle(s).
3-5 years of related manufacturing - distribution work experience desired;
Moderate knowledge of general manufacturing with good mechanical aptitude;
Basic math skills
Relies on verbal and written instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job;
Works under moderate supervision;
Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment;
Demonstrate flexibility when confronted with change;
Effective interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of the organization;
Must maintain composure in a fast-paced environment;
Ability to work with management in analyzing product line assembly efficiency;
