The Technical Author focuses on consumer-focused technical writing to enhance Confluence software solutions and contribute to realizing the vision of Confluence products. This position may work on product manuals, online help, operations manuals, maintenance manuals, and any other documentation that can be used to enhance the usage and value delivered with a product.
The Technical Author at Confluence is an active participant in all product development teams and must be able to translate team specifications, designs and other artifacts into meaningful documentation for both the business and technical user. The Technical Author should be able to understand and describe complex business user tasks, as well as the more technical aspects of product installation, configuration, and database maintenance.
What Will You Do Here?
Produce and maintain product documentation and release notes.
Work closely with the software development project teams to obtain the necessary technical information and provide end user perspective on product design.
Collaborate with other members of the Product Experience team to create, maintain, and improve existing and new technical documents.
Acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers and business sponsors, hands-on use of Confluence products, and referring to functional and technical specifications
Communicate with business analysts, development, quality assurance, and end-users throughout SDLC.
Develop education materials for internal and external users and stakeholders of Confluence products.
Attend all required project meetings to collaborate and discuss with fellow team members regarding previous, current and upcoming tasks.
Degree in English, Technical Writing, Instructional Design or equivalent.
Four or more years technical writing experience.

Experience following style guide, branding standards, and detailed instructions.
Strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to make proposals to people across the organization, obtain buy-in, and resolve conflicting interests.
Ability to multitask, strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills.
Must be self-motivated and willing to take initiative.
Ability to work in a team environment, including keeping forward momentum on projects and working with team members to achieve a common goal.
Familiarity or prior experience working in agile software development teams.
