SUMMARY We are working with a manufacturer of highly customized specialty products to identify a Production Supervisor. Known for high volume and quick turnaround, our confidential client produces and ships customized specialty products to over 100 countries across the globe. Located in the greater Pittsburgh area, this company offers a highly dynamic environment, emerging culture, and a competitive salary and benefits package.
With a focus on product flow and process improvement, the Production Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a 100 member production department. Reporting to a Senior Operations Manager, and indirectly to the VP of Manufacturing, the Production Supervisor oversees and directs two production shifts, with approximately 35 to 50 employees working per shift. As part of the Management team, you will observe a daylight schedule with the understanding that you are ultimately responsible for all shifts and may need to be available in an “on call” capacity for emergencies and troubleshooting.
All candidates will have experience in holding others accountable in a metric driven production environment, managing staffing levels based on trends and forecasts, and producing numbers and data as needed. The ideal candidate will be a strong and energetic leader; someone who will take initiative to jump in alongside their team to both push and support them in getting the job done.
FUNDAMENTAL DUTIES: • Direct and oversee the flow of work on the production floor. • Continuously improve the efficiencies, effectiveness, and quality standards of the production area. • Balance the labor in the production department to the capacity demanded of each individual area. • Monitor departmental and individual performance and provide appropriate feedback, encouragement, and discipline when necessary in order to facilitate department improvements. • Maintain and improve staff morale through positive example and a solution-oriented approach toward problem solving. • Manage employee relations by interviewing, hiring, monitoring absenteeism, tardiness, time cards, etc. • Provide technical support when needed and positive encouragement to the staff at all times. • Other cross-functional tasks as assigned by Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: • Engineering degree preferred; Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering highly desired. • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a high-volume production setting required; 50+ employees preferred. • Understanding of Production Control, Product Flow, and Process Improvement. • Proficiency in Production metrics and reporting; On-Time Delivery, Manufacturing Cycle Time, Yield, Throughput, Capacity Utilization, etc. • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
