All Aboard! The Miniature Railroad & Village at the Carnegie Science Center is seeking creative and enthusiastic individuals to assist in part-time public presentations, train operations, light maintenance and possible behind the scenes work. Must be available to work weekends, occasional weekdays, evenings and some holidays.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Position requires suitable experience working with the public. Must possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer service. Successful candidates will have the ability to learn and communicate detailed information about the exhibit to visitors of all ages in an enthusiastic and engaging manner. Suitable candidate is a good storyteller. An interest in local area history preferred. An additional interest in model trains, and railroad heritage is preferred, but not required. Requires the ability to communicate with visitors in a clear and understandable manner. Patience, attention to detail, and ability to handle delicate miniatures and materials are a must.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Interested individuals must be extremely agile, able to climb ladders and lift up to 30 lbs. The physical requirements for the presenter position include walking, and longer periods of standing. The ability to see, hear, and approach visitors in the gallery space, often with lower light and a high level of ambient sound, are important components of the customer service nature of the job.
