Provides support and maintenance city-wide for servers running Windows 2008 and 2012; researches and tests new software products as they relate to server technology.
Installs, configures, tests and supports desktop computer hardware, software (e.g., Windows 7, Windows 8, etc.), printers, communication devices, graphics and storage peripherals; provides training and technical assistance to users.
Ensures security and integrity of desktop computer systems, back end server systems, and related networks.
Assesses user needs; recommends purchase and/or modification to existing desktop computers and peripheral and network hardware, software and operating systems.
Ensures compliance with vendor licensing laws and regulations related to software applications.
Ensures adherence to established departmental desktop computer system and network standards, policies and procedures.
Analyzes and evaluates interface of new hardware and software with existing systems.
Assesses and recommends desktop computer, peripheral and network hardware, software and operating systems solutions.
Designs, develops, and maintains the City's disaster recovery co-location facility.
Supports City's network infrastructure (i.e. fiber Internet connectivity).
Supports City's storage infrastructure (i.e. fiber SAN connectivity).
Assesses and recommends Internet and intranet hardware, software and operating systems solutions.
Supervises assigned personnel; evaluates work; recommends and implements approved disciplinary and/or corrective action; provides training and/or technical assistance.
Acts as a liaison with consultants, vendors, outside agencies, City Departments, etc., on assigned projects.
Manages area of responsibility in strict accordance with applicable laws, regulations and established policies, including union agreements, to ensure fair and standardized treatment of employees.
Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, organizes and controls the resources under jurisdiction toward the effective and efficient attainment of organizational and program goals, including public service and employee safety.
Assists in preparing bidding and purchase specifications.
Ensures maintenance of hardware under warranty or service contracts.
Installs, configures, tests and supports Internet and intranet technologies.
Troubleshoots network communication and computer peripheral problems; performs system back-ups and data recovery; creates batch administration scripts.
Maintains records, both manually and by computer, and prepares accurate reports, correspondence, etc.
Performs activities and functions of related lower-level personnel.
Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.

WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show three (3) years of full-time network experience in (LAN, MAN, WAN) which includes: performing systems analysis, design, development, or programming. (Full-time is defined as 32 hours or more per week. Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Science, Business Administration, or a related field. EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is seven (7) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
