An established company within the metals industry, located near Pittsburgh, is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer.
Will service, maintain, install and commission a range of high specification equipment and machinery on customer premises domestically and internationally.
Responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, installing, calibrating and servicing equipment used primarily within the steel industry.
Must have experience of working with PLC’s, drives and control equipment; experience with Siemens S7 is preferred.
Any familiarity with communications software, networking and control applications in Windows environments would be a plus.
Will be responsible for preparing and updating site maintenance records, equipment logs, expense reports and other routine paperwork.
Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels and handle working under pressure well.
Must be able to physically maneuver around equipment at all elevations and positions.
70% travel will be required, domestically and internationally, primarily throughout North and South America and Europe.
When not travelling to customer sites, the Engineer will provide technical support over the phone and via email, and assist with in-house repairs and documentation.
AS or BS Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering required.
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on, field service engineering experience is required, preferably within heavy industries, including steel, glass, and chemical.
Electrical/Electronic: Troubleshoot and repair down to component level on instrumentation, control (both digital and analog technologies) and low voltage power systems using a variety of test equipment and system diagnostic skills. 3 phase and control panel experience a plus, but not required.
Mechanical: A working knowledge of mechanical systems including experience with mechanical drives, pneumatics and hydraulics.
Hand skills: Should be familiar with working on light and heavy mechanical assemblies; using hand tools and power tools; proficient with hand soldering, both wiring terminations and on printed circuit boards.
Possess the ability to read electrical/electronic schematics and detailed mechanical drawings and specifications.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products including Excel, Word and Outlook for performing job duties.
