The Carnegie Science Center seeks a full-time Director of Special Events. The Director of Special Events is responsible for marketing, selling, booking, coordinating and supervising a wide range of special events at Carnegie Science Center. He/she works collaboratively with the Science Center’s food service vendor on catering needs, oversees staff working on the events, and provides a high level of customer service to clients. The Director of Special Events develops and is accountable for the annual revenue and expense budgets for this product line and tracks progress on a monthly basis to meet annual revenue goals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a business setting, preferably in a customer-facing position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of marketing and sales techniques required, as is the ability work well under pressure and with multiple priorities. Must have strong attention to detail, excellent communication and customer service skills as well as supervisory experience. Must be positive, optimistic, and energetic. Must be flexible for a varied schedule that includes holidays, weekends, and evenings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift and transport special events materials (up to 30 pounds); stoop; bend; move tables and chairs; and stand for long periods of time.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there will be close contact with a personal computer for long periods of time.
