The Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time Painter responsible for skilled work in painting equipment and structures including wood, tile, metal and related materials for both the interior and exterior of the Carnegie buildings.
High school diploma plus four years’ experience and the equivalent of six months to one year formal instruction in painting techniques or any combination of experience and training to provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to work from ladder and scaffold, climb, maintain balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50-pounds or more. This position requires working various schedules and times including daylight, evenings, nights, and weekends.
Valid driver’s license
Prepares surfaces to be painted or varnished by cleaning, patching and sanding. Matches colors and mixes paint.
Maintains equipment and tools such as paintbrushes, spray guns, and rollers of the painting trade.
Paints surfaces of various materials such as brick, wood, steel, plaster.
Refinishes furniture, doors, fixtures, floors and other surfaces as assigned.
Sets up ladders, rigging and scaffolding.
Performs related work.
Paints windows and sashes. Learns to use all new technologies, equipment and tools as they become available.
Interprets and works from blueprints, pencil sketches and diagrams.
Assists and works with the carpenters as required.
Works with outside contractors, sales representatives, and in-house staff to provide and/or obtain information.
Assists other trades as necessary.
Keeps accurate records including equipment such as vehicles.
Maintains and operates tools, equipment (including vehicles), materials, and machines in a safe, sound condition and maintains a safe, orderly and clean work area.
Completes work orders and PM requests in a timely and proper manner.
Responds to emergency calls.
Observes safety and security procedures including proper use of equipment such as respirators.
Must follow work rules, regulations and procedures of the General Services Department and Institute.
Exhibits courtesy and sensitivity in interactions with the various internal and external customers.
Projects the image and attitude of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.
