Software Engineering Institute

The Software Engineering Insititute (SEI) is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and operated by Carnegie Mellon University. For more than 20 years, the SEI has had the national mandate to advance the state of the practice of software engineering and to serve as a national resource in software engineering and technology.

The SEI's mission is to advance software engineering and related disciplines to ensure the development and operation of systems with predictable and improved cost, schedule and quality.

The SEI strategy is to openly engage a broad-based community with a focus on improving the effects of software in the world. It creates usable technologies, applies them to real problems, and amplifies their impact by accelerating broad adoption.
