Job Overview
UPMC Corporate Services is hiring a full-time operating systems engineer associate to help support the ISD Enterprise Transformation Department, located in Oakland. This position will involve working standard business hours, Monday through Friday, with on-call and off-hours support responsibilities. The operating systems engineer will maintain system software, determine and resolve problems that occur and act as a technical liaison to computer manufacturers. Some programming will be required to accomplish system to system interfaces. The incumbent will also define and provision storage at users request, respond to, diagnose and remediate issues, and participate in capacity planning and performance discussions.
Responsibilities:
-Interfaces with peers in other departments and coordinate efforts wherever possible to increase overall service and reduce costs through the potential elimination of duplicate or redundant services.
-Conveys courtesy, enthusiasm, positive attitude, and service to support management involving patients, medical staff, physicians, administration, etc.
-Supports capacity planning and management, space forecasts, tape libraries, and software and hardware inventories
-Resolves and documents basic operation problems
-Performs basic user administration under supervision
Requirements:
-Typically has completed a four-year academic degree including courses in computer programming, systems analysis, system development, systems engineering or has acquired core IT skills and knowledge via practical experience
-Experience as an IT professional is required
-Knowledge of essential IT principles and analytical rules is required
-Ability to perform standard IT procedures and protocols is required
-Prior experience with large SAN and NAS storage infrastructure configurations is highly desired
-Excellent math skills and the ability to grasp concepts are also preferred
