Job Overview
Essential Functions:
Work with a variety of small business clients to maintain and support IT networks based on Windows 7, MS Windows Vista, Windows XP, MS Windows Server 2008 and 2003, MS Exchange 2007 and 2003 Server, and .NET servers. Work closely with client's IT staff or provide full-service IT outsourcing. Key areas of expertise include Exchange-based email, Active Directory, security, server monitoring, and network infrastructure. The Sr. Engineer will troubleshoot application problems including desktop application integration issues, server problems, data service issues, and connectivity problems. In supporting a client, the engineer may be designated either the primary or the secondary engineer. The primary engineer must be familiar with all aspects of the client IT infrastructure and is responsible for first line response to all customer issues, and a rapid response time to opened help tickets is essential. The secondary engineer should be familiar with the client’s IT infrastructure to the degree that they can seamlessly step in and resolve issues in the absence of the primary engineer. It is critical that all engineers keep their service reports and public folders up to date in order for the TRC to manage incoming calls.
Responsibilities:
- Support and troubleshoot Windows 2000/Windows 2003, Windows 2008-based IT networks. Work on-site and remotely to diagnose and resolve both emergency and chronic problems related to availability, security, performance, connectivity, and overall functionality.
- Install setup and configure Windows-based application servers and .NET servers. Configure and deploy Windows 2000, Windows 2003 and Windows XP workstation environments and other as applicable. Setup and evaluate various information services and applications.
- Design and plan information technology architectures and security strategies to support and align with client's business goals.
- Support and manage Microsoft Outlook with back-end MS Exchange server, Microsoft Office suite, phone communications, and high-speed Internet connection.
- Plan and implement migrations to Windows 7, XP and Windows 2000/2003/2008 Server, Active Directory, and Exchange 2000/2003/2007.
- Maximize system availability and performance through fault-tolerant configuration, efficient network architecture, and proactive server monitoring.
- Create on-going documentation of the environment as it evolves.
- Specify and order new server and communications equipment and/or software to support growth and additional applications.
- Escalate issues to the TRC if engineer is unable to meet time commitments, or task at hand exceeds the engineer’s ability.
Qualifications/Education: Minimum Work Experience Requirements
- 10+ years experience in desktop, server administration and IT Infrastructure support (new software installation, machine setup, problem isolation and resolution).
- Strong technical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, ability to implement quick workarounds to technical problems.
- Ability to troubleshoot application problems including workstation program compatibility issues, server issues, data service issues, and connectivity problems.
- Experience in business software support (Microsoft products).
- Experience in a variety of client environments.
- Familiarity with remote monitoring tools and remote troubleshooting techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a virtual office environment, providing consistent follow-through and utilizing remote access and wireless connectivity technology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Accustomed to working in a team environment.
- Demonstrated dedication and commitment to providing continuous operations.
- Works independently and demonstrates strong sense of ownership and initiative.
Education:
- Cisco certification (CCDA, CCNA, CCDP, CCIP, CCNP, CCSP or CCIE), and/or
- Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP:EA), or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE), and/or
- Security certification (CISSP, CISM).
- Other technical certification as approved by Progent Professional Development oversight
- Two-year degree in computer science/technology, or equivalent experience.
