The MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) team provides I.T. solutions for enterprise level applications at U.S. Steel. MES collects data from various shop floor systems and serves both as an integration hub to existing systems (Oracle ERP, legacy shop floor systems etc.) and as a provider of enterprise level applications. A team member of the MES team has the opportunity to learn new technologies, improve existing processes and create innovative solutions while addressing challenging problems across U.S. Steel’s various business areas. The variety of areas supported by the team creates a wide berth for professional growth. Our team members routinely work with customers and business processes ranging from Corporate Accounting to Plant Operations.
The primary role of the Application Analyst is divided between supporting existing USS systems and developing new software. Our applications span a variety of technologies but are primarily Microsoft .NET and/or Java J2EE (using IBM’s Rational Application Developer) processes accessing Oracle databases. The application landscape spans all types of development: unattended processes, point to point integrations and feature rich user interfaces.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Designer/developer creating new corporate web-based systems, owning all aspects of the software development lifecycle for specific applications, and assisting senior engineers in larger efforts.
• Provide support to existing processes and react to issues which affect USS’ ability to produce or ship steel. • Work with our lead Java and .NET engineers to support, enhance and test MES’ suite of tools focused on integrating Legacy Plant Systems with our Corporate ERP (Oracle R12 ). • Work with our lead .NET engineers to build and test MES’s suite of tools focused on servicing new Corporate Applications. • Participate in U.S. Steel’s Carnegie Way training and methodologies focused on Continuous Improvement.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• 1 – 3 years’ experience in legacy development technologies (Visual Basic 6, Classic ASP, PERL). • 1 – 3 years’ experience in .NET tools & methodologies (WCF Services, Team Foundation Server). • 1 - 3 years’ experience in Java tools & methodologies (Servlets, JSF, Spring, Hibernate, JMS). • Experience in developing applications within a manufacturing / industrial context.
