SUMMARY We are partnering with a manufacturer with a global customer base to identify an experienced Production Planning Manager. This privately held company has a total of just under 100 employees across two locations in a manufacturing environment with foundry, machining, welding, and assembly operations.
Reporting to a VP of Operations, the Production Planning Manager will have a focus on managing the ERP system and working closely with the VP to plan and create programs and initiatives related to continual improvement in the areas of procurement, production, logistics, inventory control, etc. This is a highly visible position across all departments including management, plant personnel, sales, engineering, quality, and accounting departments.
POSITION Responsibilities include: • Working closely with VP Operations to plan and create programs and/or initiatives related to continual improvement in the areas of Procurement, Production, Logistics, Inventory Control, etc. • Verification with Inside Sales when an order is received that the customer due date can be met based on material lead time. • Scheduling all production jobs / orders on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis based upon communication and feedback with Vice President Operations. • Ensuring timely production and delivery based on interactions with Production, Engineering, Sales, and other departments. • Creating / Approving bills of materials and routings to produce part within the ERP / MRP system. • Assigning / Approving part numbers and production codes. • Creating / Tracking shop production jobs/orders for the plant. • Managing requisition and procuring material required for production. • Managing all WIP and ensure accurate inventory in the plant. • Knowledge of safety stock inventory and managing safety stock levels. • Overseeing issuing and collection of all completed shop orders, verifying captured manufacturing cost, and adjusting inventory as needed. • Developing / Implementing / Maintaining / Improving procedures for managing physical inventory. • Monitoring inventory levels, job costing, and shipment performance. • Assuming full responsibility for the management of the Item Maintenance section of the ERP / MRP software system. • Maintaining a log of all active, obsolete, and scrapped Foundry copper castings. • Making positive and negative inventory adjustments and / or scrap adjustments. • Investigating discrepancies in material quantities and / or identification, and verifying location of non-conforming materials prior to disposal. • Maintaining monthly files on all transactions that have a retention requirement. • Supporting and establishing logistical procedures to facilitate timely shipments of inventory both inbound and outbound. • Attending seminars and continuing education classes, and reviewing technical publications to keep abreast in the state of the art. • Performing all necessary day-to-day tasks required for optimal Production Department functionality. • Keeping informed and educated on raw material market conditions and current prices to minimize cost of goods. • Compliance with all Corporate, ISO 9001, Production, Finance, and Engineering Department guidelines, procedures, and rules.
REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement, Management, Computer Science, or Business related field, preferred. • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in production planning and / or inventory control management in a manufacturing environment. • APICS, CPIM, or other applicable certification preferred. • Strong ERP / MRP experience to including inventory management and inventory costing flow facets. • ISO quality control training. • Ability to read drawings and understand what manufacturing processes are needed to manufacture the items. • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen, and physical.
