SUMMARY We are currently working with a highly successful, privately held product-based manufacturer in New Castle, PA to identify a Design Engineer to join their team. This is a direct hire opportunity offering a competitive base and full benefits package. This is a newly created position due to growth in the company and a need to hire an additional person to help focus on new product development efforts. The Design Engineer will have the opportunity to wear many hats, with a focus on new product development and customization efforts.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer will work with a team of product, design, manufacturing, and product development engineers, and will have close interaction with other internal departments, as well as with vendors and customers (i.e. end users, installers, buyers, and specifiers).
The ideal candidate will bring 3 to 5 years of experience to the table, including having designed technical products, and have an innate interest in new product development.
POSITION Responsibilities: • Research and develop new ideas for products, produce innovative designs that transcends market trends • Research design trends and product limitations • Research appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs/methods, and market characteristics • Research market for trending attributes including colors, materials, finishes, and textures • Enhance existing product to improve performance and/or make it more appealing to consumers • Create sketches and illustrations of potential products using CAD software • Manage prototyping process including fabrication, assembly and time studies • Manage/participate in component and product testing • Generate prints, detailed drawings, and instructions for manufacturing Examine materials and production costs to determine manufacturing requirements • Work with engineering, marketing, production, and/or sales departments to establish, evaluate, and approve design concepts
BASE REQUIREMENTS • Minimum education of an Associate degree in Engineering, Product Design, or similar, preferred. Bachelor degree highly preferred • Experience in designing technical products • 3-5 years’ applicable experience is preferred • Detail oriented • Well-developed technical and creative skills • IT skills, including solid modeling computer aided design programs (such as SolidWorks, Pro/E, Creo, etc.) • CFD experience is preferred but not required • Work well with other team members • Ability to work unsupervised • Ability to work in a fast paced environment • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen
