We are growing, and we have an opening for a Field Consultant.
Job Description, Duties and Responsibilities: This position is a member of our Field Service team primarily works in the field, onsite at the offices of our clients in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. This position is responsible for providing all aspects of ongoing network administration, server support and end-user support – from solving problems, to making changes, to proactive and preventative maintenance, to reactive support. Support duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Installing, managing, configuring and troubleshooting hardware, software and online services for: servers, desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, printers, UPS units, firewalls, switches, and other computer systems and devices. Work with clients, our staff members, hardware and software vendors and service providers, as necessary.
Performing user account maintenance, including: adding new users, setting up user profiles, deleting existing users, changing passwords, changing permissions, etc.
Performing computer account maintenance: including setting up new computers, setting up existing computers for new users, decommissioning existing computers, migrating settings and data, etc.
Providing technical support to end-users for help with a variety of user, hardware, software, online services, local network connectivity, remote connectivity, and other computer related issues.
Responding to monitoring alerts.
Performing proactive work.
Documenting work performed.
Maintaining up-to-date client documentation.
Providing assistance to: fellow Field Consultants working onsite at client offices; our ServiceDesk Consultants working at our office; our Project Consultants implementing projects.
Occasionally providing remote support to our clients from our office, via telephone, email and remote control.
A two-year associate’s degree or four-year bachelor’s degree in the field of computers, network administration or Information Technology, or equivalent experience and/or training.
3+ years of hands-on experience in the support of a variety of Microsoft networks for small and mid-size businesses.
Prior experience in a Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment and/or prior IT consulting experience is helpful.
Training and hands-on experience with the following general technologies are required: Network administration; User account administration; Computer account administration; Security and permissions; Group Policies; Server hardware, operating systems and software; Desktop/laptop/tablet hardware, operating systems and software; Server and workstation virtualization; UPS units; Network switches; Storage appliances; Onsite and offsite backup software; Email, calendars and contacts; Internet and web browsers; Microsoft Office software; Antivirus and endpoint protection software; Email protection and anti-spam software; Firewall security appliances and wireless access points; Remote access and remote connectivity (VPNs, Remote Desktop, OWA and smartphones); Online services; Remote monitoring and management software; Ticketing software.
Training and hands-on experience with the latest version and the two previous versions of Microsoft Windows Server operating system and Microsoft Windows desktop operating system are required.
Training and hands-on experience with the following specific technologies is helpful: DELL and HP Servers, desktops, laptops and tablets; Microsoft Exchange Server, SQL Server and Remote Desktop Services; Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere; Veritas Backup Exec and Backup Exec System Recovery, Storagecraft Shadow Protect and Image Manager, Datto backup, and Solarwinds MSP backup; Synology storage appliances; APC UPS units, PowerChute Business Edition software and Network Shutdown software; Bitdefender antivirus and OpenDNS; Proofpoint email protection and spam filtering, email encryption and email archiving services; SonicWall firewall security appliances and SonicPoint wireless access points; Microsoft Office 365, Hosted Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Skype for Business; Solarwinds N-Central remote monitoring and management software; ConnectWise Manage software.
Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and Outlook).
The Microsoft MCSA certification on the latest version of Windows Server or Windows desktop is the preferred Microsoft certification for this position.
Other certifications that are helpful include the following: CompTIA A+ and Network+; Microsoft MCSA certifications on latest version or earlier versions of Windows Server or Windows desktop; Microsoft MCSA certification on Office 365; VMware Certified Associate (VCA) or Professional (VCP); Certified SonicWall Security Administrator (CSSA) or Professional (CSSP).
Basic typing skills and basic telephone skills.
Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving skills.
A valid driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle, and a responsible driving record.
Work Environment Conditions:
Location: Daily local car travel in the Greater Pittsburgh area is required, using a company provided or personal vehicle. On most occasions, work for this position is performed in the field, onsite at the offices of our clients in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. On some occasions, work is performed in our office in Monroeville, PA. A valid driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle, and a responsible driving record are required.
Physical Requirements: The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit, and use hands to operate computer keyboard, mouse, telephone and basic office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, see and hear. Ability to drive a vehicle.
