As the Modeling and Design Manager, you will lead a team of engineers, technologists or technicians developing and implementing technical solutions to support the growth and process performance improvement of Alcoa’s aluminum production facilities globally, from the anode manufacturing to smelting of primary metal and all related processes.
The team uses extensive modeling tools to acquire deep fundamental knowledge of the diverse aspects of the aluminum production processes then tailor-design solutions and support implementation of technologies throughout the Alcoa network. I you have general understanding of primary aluminum production processes: Hall process, carbon materials processing, high power electrical systems and environmental technologies, with expertise in one of these processes, then the role will give you the opportunity to make an impact within an established global team of subject matter experts.
Guide modeling development and usage from fundamental understanding of process phenomena to design tools
Champion best practices in design and modeling, using stage gate methodology to lead R&D projects
Advise on technology prospects and support the development pipeline of smelting technologies
Communicate and acquire support from individual plant management and CoE leadership
Align cross-functional resources to deliver technical solutions efficiently
Develop team members, located internationally by providing insightful coaching on technical and professional aspects
20% - 40% global travel to manufacturing locations
B.S or B.E in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemistry or related field
7 years R&D or industrial experience
Including 3 years in a managerial position
Experience commissioning of technologies for the aluminum industry is a plus
Understanding of modeling requirements and limitations and experience with modeling (Finte Element Method and Computational Fluid Dynamics) software (Ansys, Comsol, Fluent, etc.) is desirable
