SUMMARY We are currently working with a specialty manufacturer to identify a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant will work within a business unit of approximately 200 employees, which is one business unit that is part of a publicly traded company. This organization has extremely low turnover and offers a work family-oriented culture. The company, as a whole, is very big on promoting from within and opportunities to advance can exist in other locations within the US as well as locally.
This position is a newly created role as an addition to their staff to assist with an increased workload and for long term succession planning. This is a salaried exempt position offering a competitive base salary and full benefit package.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is at the Cost Accountant or Sr. Accountant level and is ready to take the next step up in their career to be groomed into an Assistant Controller role. Longer term, this company is ideally looking for someone to succession plan into the Controller’s role upon retirement as well.
While candidates within a commutable distance are preferred, this company is willing to consider candidates open to relocating.
POSITION Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will assist in overseeing and administering the accounting operations and policies. Direct involvement and oversight of all accounting activities will include cost accounting, inventory, fixed assets, general ledgers and reporting, accounts payable, budgeting, forecasting, financial controls, GAAP compliance, SOX program, and audits.
Responsibilities include: • Preparing data for financial reporting to internal management including monthly reporting of actual to budget/forecast variances for profit and loss including cost control. Includes producing reports at various management and product levels. • Analyzing budget and forecast variances; summarizing/reporting the findings. • Coordinating and assisting with the preparation of budgets and forecasts; provides continuous support to all team members throughout the activities. • Assisting in coordinating day-to-day accounting operations and works with the Accounting team to ensure deadlines are met. • Ensuring the Accounting department’s processes and practices are in compliance with company policies and procedures, SOX (Sarbanes Oxley Act) and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). • Analyzing, manipulating and calculating various Company and/or financial data at a high level. • Ensuring month-end, quarter-end and year-end General Ledger closing account reconciliations and closing steps are accurately carried out and deadlines are met. • Coordinating internal and external audit activities. • Cross training on all accounting functions (cost accounting, inventory, FIFO inventory reserve, internal tolling, fixed assets, accounts payable, closing process, weekly and monthly reports, SOX compliance and audits, year-end audit, etc.) and having a strong understanding and overview of the accounting processes and procedures. • Identifying accounting process improvements; developing and documenting business processes to improve efficiency and strengthen internal controls. • Assisting in preparation of presentations, meeting information, as assigned. • Participating actively on project teams or may lead projects, meeting project timelines and completes actions according to project schedule; communicating effectively with other team members so that all issues are clearly understood. • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor.
BASE REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s Degree required. Preferably in Accounting/Business/Finance related field. • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive accounting experience. • At least 4+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment with cost accounting. • Experience with ERP systems required (i.e. SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics, etc.). Experience with SAP highly preferred. • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen, and credit check.
