The Transportation Systems Division offers AC propulsion systems for railroad commuter cars and locomotives including traction motors, VVVF Inverters, controls, HVAC and other electrical devices. Our Transportation Systems Division is looking to hire an experienced Sr. Design Engineer to perform engineering and project management activities for design, development, application, customer order design, manufacture, assembly, test, installation and servicing of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment. Experience with Printed Circuit Board Design coupled with the capability to create electrical schematics using CAD. You will also be able to design digital and analog circuitry for the control of HVAC and motor drive equipment.
In this exciting role, you will design new and/or improve existing major system components and identify, research and develop products to support new business opportunities. You will play a role in product planning and MELCO development programs and create proposals including budgets, schedules and technical specifications.
Meet with customers and end-users to discuss and resolve technical, financial, and schedule issues. Lead root cause evaluations of failure and defects as assigned.
Develop, prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and design drawings.
Issue and maintain product manuals, training documents, presentations, etc.
Originate, select and/or maintain purchasing specifications for all components of product(s).
Support field service work by providing information and troubleshooting equipment both remotely and in person.
Initiate and review relevant industry group studies.
Develop and/or approve assembly and test processes. Direct and coordinate assembly and testing of prototype products.
Develop and design U.S. components to replace imported components and participate in vendor qualification
Perform product and equipment testing. Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
Assist and support Manufacturing, Quality and Sales departments with production and documentation needs.
Experience with programming micro controller or DSP (Digital Signal Processing) in alagog with C & Java.
Expereince programming Field Programable Gate Array (FPGA) and other logic devises using Verilog or VHDL
Experience with Motor Control theory a PLUS!
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a design engineering capacity, or equivalent education and experience.
Advanced knowledge of HVAC and/or Propulsion System technology and design.
Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with customers, employees, and suppliers.
Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.
Ability to read, understand and create technical drawings and material.
Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally as required.
