Play an integral role in the conceptual design and implementation of real time embedded software for use within medical devices. This individual will operate as a subject matter expert, an individual technical contributor and will be responsible for motor control and pressure delivery core knowledge for Sleep Therapy device development projects. A comprehensive understanding of Field Oriented Control, Pressure delivery fundamentals, an ability to realize this functionality in an embedded software platform and a passion for science and technology will enable the candidate to execute successfully in this role.

The Project Software Engineer is a hands on contributor that will also serve as a trusted subject matter expert in the area of motor controls and pressure delivery. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Contributing to a number of cross-functional project teams with responsibilities that span the entire embedded software development life cycle including developing software requirements, design documents, software implementation and testing
Working with a variety of Microprocessors implementing embedded real-time solutions.
Testing and analyzing equipment that is essential in the development of embedded devices.
Leading, as well as participating, on a number of cross-functional project teams while coordinating and driving project activities from the system engineering focus, ensuring and advancing the team’s adherence to best in class engineering practices, procedures and Quality System requirements.
Actively pursuing and understanding pressure delivery requirements for new product development including the scheduling, organizing, and leading activities for the motor control implementation and the realization of that delivery system.
Act as a technical leader within the engineering team, ensuring active participation in activities that enhance the engagement and success of the overall team.
Mentoring engineers on technical issues, problem-solving strategies, and engineering principles.
Collaborating with Product Managers, Technical managers, Systems Engineers, and other Engineering managers to develop working relationships that will enhance the development of the group’s products.
Balancing the demand for subject matter expertise in pressure delivery and motor control with the ability to prioritize their own technical contribution and workload on key Sleep Therapy products.
Demonstrating a continuous improvement and lean mindset in order to adjust and respond to the needs of supporting product development and additional business and customer needs.

This role will initially be based in our Monroeville, PA office. Philips will be relocating this office to a new site in Bakery Square, one of the premier locations in Pittsburgh. This is a very exciting time to be joining Philips, as this new location will be the Sleep & Respiratory Center of Excellence. The new office is set to open in late 2020.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
Bachelor of Science of higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar technical discipline (required.) Master’s degree highly desirable.
10+ years of full-cycle embedded software development (C, C++, and/or assembly languages) and design.
Strong understanding of structured design, embedded real-time systems, and hardware/software interfacing.
Experience with BLDC motors and associated software control via embedded system software.
Experience with a variety of micro-processors
Ability to understand schematics and collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure proper system design and function.
Demonstrated delivering results in the implementation of a motor control platform.
Must be able to thrive in a fast paced, team oriented, new product development environment.
