The Director of Finance has primary day-to-day responsibility and oversight for all finance and accounting operations and financial analysis and reporting activities across the ONS Enterprise at both the national and chapter level. This role will lead and streamline improvement efforts of finance-related processes and systems to meet the growing needs of the organization. The Director of Finance ensures accurate and timely compliance with appropriate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards and regulatory requirements to meet organizational goals in alignment with strategic plans.
Financial Management and Accounting
Directs and oversees processes and workflow associated with accounts payable, receivables, payroll and 401(k) plan reconciliations, various account reconciliations, sales tax compliance, monthly project related financial statements, Chapter dues allocation, and monthly/year-end closings. Sets priorities, delegates and leverages staff to support finance and accounting-related needs across the Enterprise to ensure accurate and timely deliverables.
Prepares and delivers accurate and timely financial reporting on a monthly and annual basis to include financial statements, tax forms and returns, and ad-hoc reports.
Provides expertise and serves as a point of contact for finance-related activities across the Enterprise and assists in the development of detailed budgets.
Oversees and coordinates the annual audit and serves as a liaison between the auditors and ONS staff.
Provides assistance to the CFO in managing the investment portfolio and serves as a back-up for third-party administrator activities and IRS compliance testing related to the 401(k) plan.
Collaboration and communication
Provides continuous training and communication of finance-related policies and procedures to staff across the Enterprise.
Responds to concerns and inquiries from employees, vendors, chapter leaders, auditors, state and federal agencies, and external stakeholders related to accounting and finance matters. Oversees the resolution of issues according to ONS policies and guidelines.
Cultivates working relationships with staff, executives, Boards, banking and investment managers, 401(k) broker, vendors, members and external stakeholders.
Develops and coaches a strong team of finance professionals; facilitates regular collaboration meetings to identify challenges and communicate processes and/or workflow improvements.
Process Improvement and Quality Assurance
Develops and implements accounting systems, business reporting tools, technologies, and related policies and procedures.
Analyzes finance-related processes and workflow on an ongoing basis to identify opportunity areas and implement strategies for improvement.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required; MBA is preferred.
CPA license is required.
8-10 years of accounting and finance experience required; strong tax and non-profit background is highly desirable.
