We are looking for a Sr. Director of Software Development to lead a diverse development team and collaborate across the entire organization to ensure the successful launch of new products and ongoing refinements of existing products at Carnegie Learning. WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE
Supporting overall strategy and technology direction for the development of applications and infrastructure supporting CL's customer-facing solutions
Strategic planning for all product development efforts to include the subsequent testing, release, and production environment needs
Assisting the CTO in overseeing all activities of the software development team, and influence on delivery groups (architecture, QA, and application release)
Recruiting, engaging, developing, and retaining a world-class team viewed as the leader in our industry through thoughtful leadership and collaborative team building
Working with the CTO to define the current and long-range direction of software development by enhancing and implementing best-in-class programs, policies, practices, and systems while delivering high quality and repeatable results
Supporting the development of CL’s product roadmap, including, but not limited to technology investigation, prototyping, and estimation
Leading and enhancing our methodology for the design, development, test and release of our products and features
Evaluating new technologies and solutions in the market and keeping abreast of trends
Identifying opportunities to leverage internal and external resources to meet project demands and judging when it’s appropriate to lead the team and when to jump into the work
Ensuring the knowledge sharing of software development best practices in design, code, quality and process across departments; and developing and monitoring technical standards to ensure adherence
WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR BACKPACK
BS or MS in computer science
8+ years of software development experience
At least one experience leading a large-scale, multi-application software team with proven delivery of great customer-facing products on deadline
A leadership style that evokes trusts and commits to developing a smart and talented engineering team.
Previous leadership roles in product or application development and engineering. Working knowledge and ability to code in our tech stack or similar: Dynamic HTML5 web apps built in Angular, Typescript on the front-end with Java &/or PHP and MySQL backend. Full stack preferred, with emphasis on front-end.
The ability to seamlessly toggle between the strategic and the tactical. Ability to develop vision, strategic plans, product roadmaps as well as tactical priorities, processes, procedures and issue resolution.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate the vision, influence others, and gain alignment.
