This position will support ChemImage, and is based in our Pittsburgh, PA office. In this position you will, under direct supervision, perform a variety of moderately complex information technology support services in the areas of computer operations, user and desktop support (hardware & software), help desk, and data management, including heavy customer interaction. Monitor, operate or coordinate and assist others in computer operation.
The Desktop Support Technician needs to be on site Monday through Friday, during core business hours to perform their duties. They also need to provide support after core business hours, as required.
Install and configure all new PCs and laptops
Install software, install and repair hardware and peripherals
Respond to telephone calls, e-mail and personnel requests for technical support
Perform hardware and software break/fix work
Troubleshoot, diagnose problems, implement corrective action procedures within prescribed guidelines and/or escalate to other technical resources as appropriate
Develop expert understanding of PC hardware, software, internal software and associated technologies
Assist in the implementation of new technology and train staff to be efficient
Diagnose/resolve end-user problems including recognition, isolation, research of software/hardware errors/features if required and problem resolution
Organize and maintain IT equipment inventory assets
Analyze and evaluate PC hardware and software
Assist with purchasing of computer supplies and/or recommending product solutions
Install additional network/telco lines throughout the facilities as required
All other duties as assigned by management
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Posses knowledge of technical practices related to complicated equipment and computer use
Posses diverse problem-solving skills
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to think quickly and logically to ensure expedient response to customer inquiries
Must have strong organization skills
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Suite
Associate's degree or certificate in Computer Science or related field preferred
Demonstrated experience may be substituted for educational requirements
Minimum of 1-3 years of technical work experience providing computer support and installing and configuring new PCs and laptops
Experience with providing internal user support
Experience in a Windows 7, Windows 10 environment
Experience with Office Suite
Experience with multiple hardware platforms
Experience with iOS and Android mobile platforms
Working Conditions / Physical Demands:
Travel up to 20% representing ChemImage to remote office locations and test sites as needed
Perform medium work - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently
See and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity; standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping kneeling, crouching, reaching and other similar tasks requiring physical activity and repetitive motions
Operate standard office equipment including a computer, copier, fax, phone and other similar office equipment
Use of general tools and cleaning supplies. Routine exposure to dust and cleaning supplies.
Work setting is primarily office-based but conditions may involve limited exposure to chemicals, emitted radiation, fumes, dust, odors, gases and other substances when in a laboratory or field environment. Employees whose work setting may involve these substances will be informed by their managers regarding the nature of these substances and may request PPE as necessary.
Must adhere to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements
