The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics is seeking an applications developer to support expanding research, clinical, and educational projects in the area of pharmacogenomics and precision medicine. The selected applicant will work within the team of Dr. Philip Empey, in the Pharmacogenomics Center of Excellence. They will work with other department faculty and staff to lead development for Test2Learn (www.test2learn.org) as well as new web-based applications designed to leverage pharmacogenomic data generated by an exciting new precision medicine initiative. Test2Learn is an award-winning, genomics education solution that provides for the use of personal genomic data in competency-based education to teach healthcare providers how to apply precision medicine in their everyday practice. The application is increasingly used in several Universities, nationally-deployed certificate, and continuing education programs.
Our PittPGx team also leads a population-based precision medicine program in Pittsburgh. Web-based applications will support analytics driving the reporting and use of these data for research. This role will involve planning, design, development and maintenance of frontend applications and backend servers. Candidates will join an innovative team developing web services and consumer facing web applications, education websites, and advanced analytics components. They will manage and maintain the data model; develop and improve existing code bases; and work closely with internal team and external partners to ensure new developments align with roadmap and integrate seamlessly with other platform components.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated; they can work well both independently and within a team. They are a self-starter -- eager to learn new technologies and consider security implications in their designs with our highly collaborative team. Experience in developing front-end web applications (HTML5, CSS, Modern JavaScript Frameworks like Angular and React) and/or python programming is expected. Experience with Canvas is a significant plus. Candidates should also have experience developing applications on cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure), with relational database technologies and data modeling, and web service development (e.g. BitBucket Code Repository, Docker, Rest API). Familiarity with data privacy concepts (HIPAA) is attractive. Excellent interpersonal, attention to detail, and organizational skills are ideal to regularly collaborate with team members and see projects through to completion.

A Masters degree in analytics, computer science, information science, or a related field is optimal. Combination of education and relevant experience may be considered per University guidelines. |
