The SEI helps advance software engineering principles and practices and serves as a national resource in software engineering, computer security, and process improvement. The SEI works closely with defense and government organizations, industry, and academia to continually improve software-intensive systems. Our core purpose is to help organizations improve software engineering capabilities and develop or acquire the right software, defect free, within budget and on time, every time.
As a Senior Recruiter, you will play a key role in identifying and attracting top talent to the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, including requisition intake, sourcing, creating job descriptions, screening and scheduling interviews, managing approvals process, and closing. You will also plan and attend career fairs, raising brand awareness and forming relationships with potential employees. You will play a key role in developing our team culture and forming positive relationships across hiring divisions in order to infuse a culture of trust and collaboration throughout the organization. This role will report to the Talent Acquisition Manager.
Bachelor’s degree, plus five (5) years of experience recruiting, preferably with experience in technical recruiting.
Currently this role is remote, but will be required to work out of the Pittsburgh office eventually. Movement between buildings within the SEI and CMU community required.
Willingness to travel to various locations to support the SEI’s overall mission. This may include national travel to SEI offices and operating locations, job fairs, and offsite meetings on occasion, 10% travel.

Build strong relationships with hiring managers and critical partners, both internal and external to HR, in order to operate as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert.
Cultivate a talent pipeline using established referral networks, sourcing tools, and job fairs.
Track candidate progress through ATS and meet expectations for metrics set by Talent Acquisition Manager.
Ensure that diversity is incorporated into the SEI’s overall recruiting strategies.
Plan and attend recruiting events with recruiting team.
Engage with campus partners to enhance alignment opportunities.
Explore technology and tools that can increase recruiting efficiency.
Be a change agent that regularly explores opportunities to improve efficiency.
Will have the opportunity to get involved in projects focused on process improvement, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and implementation of best practices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal skills and collaboration.
Strong technical aptitude, with a desire to continually evaluate and improve processes.
Understanding of employment laws and the obligations associated with them.
Maintains employee confidence and protects operations by keeping human resource information confidential.
Strong desire to create a positive culture.
At least five years’ experience in recruiting, preferably with a concentration in technical recruiting.
Experience with tracking candidates in an Applicant Tracking System.
