Cernostics, Inc is seeking a Laboratory Assistant at our laboratory in Pittsburgh, PA. The purpose of the Laboratory Assistant role is to assist with laboratory duties related to tissue-based cancer diagnostic testing. The successful candidate will support laboratory operations through general maintenance of laboratory and supply areas, equipment, and reagents. The Laboratory Assistant will perform all daily, weekly, monthly and annual quality control tasks including maintenance of all laboratory equipment. They will also prepare general laboratory paperwork for review by lab management, wash and organize laboratory glassware and plasticware to prepare for the next day’s lab work, stock lab supplies, clean the work areas to maintain a safe working environment, prepare buffers and other reagents, archive and retrieve specimens from storage, and assist laboratory scientists with tasks as needed.
The focus of this job is on producing high quality, detailed work based on established standards, guidelines and procedures. Precise, consistent work output is essential requiring patience and a willingness to handle and complete one task at a time. The job environment is stable, based on known relationships with people and well-defined processes. Job knowledge and competency is built through structured step-by-step training and positive, supportive coaching from management and peers. Communication with others is based on knowledge of repetitive job routines and procedures gained from sufficient on the job experience. Consistent, error free work based on defined regulations and standards are key measures of job performance success. Performance of quality control tasks, including environmental monitoring and equipment maintenance.
Completion of general laboratory forms for review by management.

Maintain a clean laboratory environment.
Archive and retrieve specimens from storage.
Other laboratory duties as assigned.
The candidate of choice will have:
High school diploma or Associates Degree.
Outstanding written and oral communication and organizational skills.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Strong ability to work in a team-oriented, standard operating procedure-driven environment.
2+ years experience in clinical laboratory, Biopharma, or academic research laboratory.
