Cernostics, Inc is seeking a full-time Histotechnician/Histotechnologist at our laboratory in Pittsburgh, PA. The purpose of the role is to assist with laboratory duties related to tissue-based cancer diagnostic testing. The successful candidate will perform accessioning, grossing, and embedding of tissue specimens, sectioning of tissue blocks, preparation of reagents, multiplexed immunofluorescence slide labeling, digital slide imaging, and cell culture according to established protocols. The focus of this job is on producing high quality, detailed work based on established standards, guidelines and procedures. Precise, consistent work output is essential, requiring patience, cooperation with colleagues, a willingness to handle repetitive job routines, and a commitment to delivering error-free work. This position is designed to develop a valued technical expert, who can consistently deliver quality laboratory work.
Accessioning and handling of specimens, and transmission of results to clients
Grossing, embedding and sectioning of tissue specimens
Laboratory maintenance, including environmental monitoring, inventory and ordering lab supplies, and equipment maintenance according to established procedures.
Conduct tests on patient samples using Cernostics proprietary tools and established protocols, including preparation of laboratory reagents, histologic staining and immunofluorescence labeling of tissue slides, digital slide imaging.
Other laboratory duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
B.S. or Associates Degree in the Life Sciences required
Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required
Specific experience with tissue processing including paraffin embedding and sectioning of tissue blocks, immunohistochemistry, histology stains preferred
2+ years’ experience in anatomic pathology laboratory preferred
Outstanding written and oral communication and organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail
Strong ability to work in a technical, team-oriented, standard operating procedure-driven environment
