As a member of Lucas’ Data Science and Optimization team, you will work in collaboration with some of the brightest, most talented software engineers in Pittsburgh. You’ll enjoy knowing that your team is making a recognizable impact to the growth of a profitable, established but entrepreneurial, software solutions company. Your primary focus will be in solving large scale optimization problems, performing statistical analysis, and building high quality prediction systems integrated with our suite of products. You’ll help build applications that can be productized for the market as part of the entire Lucas platform and experience.
The Applied Scientist will be responsible for: • Hands-on development of algorithms, building predictive analytics, optimizing work flows, applying machine learning, and using the right combination of tools and frameworks to turn sets of disparate data points into objective answers to help Lucas’ customers make informed decisions. • Building scalable and reusable data science components, maintaining and evolving models, and tracking overall performance. • Actively engaging with domain experts and customers to understand the challenges that exist within the Supply Chain/Warehousing and Distribution space. • Working with product development team members to bring high integrity, analytic solutions that align with organizational and revenue goals to market. • Being the resident advisor to cross-functional teams with regard to analysis, insights and statistical methodologies. Clearly articulating the same to a wider audience as well (e.g., presenting at trade shows, writing white papers and blogs, etc.).
Requirements: • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Operations Research, Applied Math, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or equivalent in a related discipline. • Ideally, 2+ years of experience developing machine learning, data science and/or optimization applications. • Hands on experience with one or more of the following programming languages (Python, Julia, R, C#). • Experience solving large scale optimization problems using AMPL, JuMP, Pyomo, CPLEX, Gurobi, Xpress and/or open-source solvers • Experience with cloud-based solutions (preferably Azure). • Biased toward action. Do what it takes to ramp up and solve problems quickly. Ability to synthesize large amounts of data to make informed decisions and act on them. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex ideas to various groups. • Commitment to producing high quality, well-designed and flexible solutions.
Additional Valued Experience: • Additional programming languages. • Experience with at least one major deep learning framework • Experience with customer interaction to discuss requirements and use cases.
