The Director Software Product Development leads the software engineering team that builds our next generation Warehouse Optimization Suite. This role requires hands on management and direction of the product team, while working hand-in-hand with product management, data science, and customer engineering teams.
We are seeking a well-rounded, passionate engineering leader with an entrepreneurial drive and who is up-to-date with technology and software development best practices. The ideal candidate will have a commercial mindset and experience leading a team developing software for external sale. This position reports to the Chief Technology Officer.
Responsibilities: • Continuously improve and be an advocate for a high-quality software development process which improves cycle times, code quality, and consistency of delivery. • Own agreed product roadmap commitments, staffing assignments, and resource estimates and be the voice of product engineering to senior leadership. • Be a hands-on player leading oversight of the development process including establishing technical feasibility of product requirements, conducting design reviews, code reviews, etc. • Have a commercial mindset in vetting architecture and guiding the design approach to ensure quality, maintainability, scalability, performance and usability. • Mentor team member development both in technical and in leadership skills to help team members grow their careers and sustain a strong product development capability for Lucas. • Develop relationships with customers and prospects to learn about their business challenges in support of on-going and future revenue opportunities.
Skills and Experience • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field • Experience within a software or tech company that sells products to external customers • 10+ years of related software development experience, with 5 years in team leadership roles • Mastery of significant portions of our technology stack including: OO programming languages (ideally .NET), SQL databases (ideally SQL Server and MySQL), Angular (or any modern browser-based framework), no-SQL databases, Spring, Hibernate, JSON, XML, and HTML(5). • Experience with micro-services architecture and distributed messaging-based design patterns • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead and develop teams • Has an agile mindset, works well under deadlines, is self-motivated, and is driven by results • Experience in building applications for the cloud or migrating applications to the cloud is a plus • Understanding of the supply chain or distribution domain is a plus
