Position Title:    Senior Civil Engineer
Department:      ENGINEERING & PROJECT MANAGEMENT
FLSA Status:       Exempt
Reports to:         Manager, Civil & Transmission Line Engineering
 

 

Overall Purpose:
The Senior Engineer will lead design project for substations and transmission lines. The Senior Engineer must be able to implement project management skills for outsourced projects and review all engineering documents, drawings, and designs that are submitted by contractors.

Responsibilities:
 

  1. Engineering Design (30%) – The Senior Engineer will design structural solutions for transmission line and substation engineering projects. Work includes using RISA 3D and PLS-CADD to perform design solutions.
  2. Engineering Oversight (30%) – The Senior Engineer will lead transmission line & substation design projects and provide overall direction on design solutions for internal projects and outsourced projects. Expertise is expected in transmission line design, constructability, regulatory requirements, steel and reinforced concrete designs, environmental permits, erosion & sedimentation control plans, geotechnical engineering, and foundation designs.
  3. Drawing Review (10%) – The Senior Engineer will review drawings designed by civil engineers in the department and sign final drawings.
  4. Field Investigations (20%) – The Senior Engineer must visit the field in support of construction projects, emergent work, for field verification of designs, for field inspections) The Engineer must be available to visit the field (including weekends and evenings) in support of emergent work.
  5. Training (10%) – The Senior Engineer to lead training sessions on civil engineering design topics and mentor civil engineers on their design projects.
  6. The Senior Engineer provides thorough updates on a weekly, monthly and annual basis for the work plan to the Manager.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college.
  2. Professional Engineering License required.
  3. Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  4. Must embrace a safety culture and maintain safe work environment for co-workers and the public.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Work location is typical office environment - desk and computer work is required.  Evening and weekend work may be required.
  2. Must be able to walk on uneven ground to various facilities and right-of-way locations for field investigations as required. 
  3. Must possess valid driver’s license and be able to drive to various company locations.  May be required to drive in inclement weather to support emergency service restoration obligations.
