Overall Purpose:

The Sr BI Developer’s primary role will be to integrate data from multiple sources to produce requested or required data elements to support DLC information needs.  This includes building an effective OLAP layer using SSAS cubes.  Resolves issues and requests escalated by less experienced Business Intelligence analysts. Programs and maintains report forms and formats, information dashboards, data generators, canned reports and other end-user information portals or resources. Interacts with data consumers to optimize forms and reports. Role typically requires between over 8 to 15 years of experience.



  • Helps to define new and forward-thinking BI strategies and ensure that the technology roadmap is up to date.   
  • Consult with end users on business needs, translate business needs into analytics/reporting requirements, and interface with IT, consultants and end users to ensure successful delivery of company reporting.
  • Develop OLAP cubes using MS SSAS.
  • Define and modify logical and physical Data Warehouse Design, write ETL routines and ensure data quality.
  • Develop ETL processes utilizing SSIS and Oracle Data Integrator.
  • Manage and maintain a virtual data layer to serve the information needs of the organization.
  • Create and test BI reports for internal and external customers utilizing Power BI or equivalent Business Intelligence tools.  Manage new report and functional dashboard generation and enhancements.
  • Incident Management - route and/or manage tickets for incidents and new developments with the standard tools.  Work report issues and defects to resolution, including performance related issues.
  • Other duties as assigned to include:  Documentation, team meetings, project work as assigned and other administrative tasks.

    Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field. Primary Focus will be on developing OLAP cubes to support daily deliverables, outputs and reporting.  Responsibilities are generally tactical in nature and work is typically complex in nature requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Candidate should have well established capabilities and act as a mentor and coach to less experienced staff.
    Decision Impact:
    Draws on significant past experience to resolve and identify root cause of problems.  Accountable for direct level of reasoning and decision making.

    Does not supervise others.

    Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree. 
  • 5+ years of relevant experience using BI technologies. 
  • 3+ years’ experience developing OLAP cubes (SSAS). 
  • Strong Data Warehouse knowledge and advanced SQL skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI.
  • Experience with Oracle Utility Suite a plus.
  • Experience with Denodo data virtualization a plus
