Lead the accounting operations of Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (GPCFB). This position will have primary responsibility for the timely preparation of financial statements, maintenance and constant improvement of our internal control structure, and compliance with corporate governance and applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Manage the daily general accounting functions of GPCFB including GL, A/P and A/R transaction activity.
- Compile and analyze financial information to ensure the proper handling of financial transactions under generally accepted accounting principles for nonprofit entities, compliance with government contracts and adherence to GPCFB policies and procedures.
- Direct the monthly financial statement close including schedule management, cutoff, reconciliations, and financial statement completion.
- Maintain and improve the internal control structure to assure integrity of all accounting transactions and deliverables.
- Administer financial modules of ERP system.
- Ensure that all external reporting, including government and Feeding America reports, are accurate and timely.
- Assist with budget and forecast preparation process.
- Ensure individual state gift solicitation compliance through third party service provider.
Audit & Taxes
- Coordinate annual audit process to ensure accounting records and reports are complete and assist external auditors as appropriate.
- Work with external tax team to ensure accurate and timely submission of IRS 990 and other tax filings.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of IRS 1099s and state filings.
- Assist in 403(b) audit and IRS 5500 preparation.
- Provide primary support for third party audits including Workers’ Compensation, State Food programs, TEFAP and City/County grant reviews.
Treasury Management
- Monitor operating and investment account balances to ensure that current operations are funded and cash for future use is generating appropriate returns.
- Manage corporate insurance broker relationship including annual renewal process, claim reporting and changes in coverage.
- Maintain stock donation account and notify Development team of donation receipts.
Grants & Temporary Restricted Funds
- Provide oversight of the government and restricted grants to ensure funds are being used according to donor instructions.
- Review all incoming grants for financial reporting requirements.
- Review grant invoicing and monitor associated receivables.
- Collaborate with Development team on creating budgets for grant proposals.
Supervision/Management of staff:
- Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis.
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
- Take an active role in staff development with annual work plans, performance objectives and goals. Establish regular cadence for monitoring progress and coaching.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- Current CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- Ten years of progressively responsible experience in financial operations and nonprofit program administration.
- Minimum of five years of experience managing accounting and finance staff.
- Thorough knowledge of nonprofit financial and accounting practices and procedures.
- Experience with government contract compliance.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise level financial systems and inventory process flow.
- Acumen and analytical skills to recognize emerging business trends in financial data.
- Thorough knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to organize, coordinate and direct projects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrable experience in leadership, multitasking, time management and verbal and written communications.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to translate and communicate complex financial information to a diverse audience.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Must be able to pass background check (Act 33 and Act 34)
