We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer II to join the MSA Information Management Solutions (IMS) division which has been offering data and insight solutions to the Consumer Package Goods industry since the early 1980s.
As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for educating a wide variety of audiences about the products and services IMS provides. By ensuring that all these audiences have the product resources they need in the format that they need it in, you will be helping to promote IMS products and make a real difference in the user experience. With a solid understanding of our products, you will be expected to have a clear understanding of how our products work and how they can be customized for each client deliverable. You will use this knowledge to design and implement Users Guides, Quick Reference Guides, Custom Training Manuals, and Training Videos. Along the way, you will introduce innovative techniques and tools to help transform how we manage information.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with software developers, product engineers, and client service representatives to create and maintain users guides, quick start guides, release notes, and various training materials
Gathers topic information, prepares written text and coordinates layout and publication specifications, incorporating work produced by other technical writers or designers
Maintain, update, and add functionality as needed to existing documentation
Create graphics and screenshots to augment documentation
Researches technical specifications, design reports, equipment and user acceptance testing cases to create and update necessary training and reference material
Understands users level of proficiency and prepares documents accordingly
Participate in the software design and testing process for product proficiency to apply to documentation
Hybrid in-office and remote work with majority of time being remote. Candidates must currently live in the Pittsburgh region or be willing to relocate due to occasional in-office work
Required Skills
Requires a four-year degree in English, Journalism or a related field, Communications, or equivalent training/experience
Minimum two years of work experience as an IT Technical Writer, producing user guides, online help, technical publications, and quick start guides
Requires emerging knowledge of information technology from a writer/editor’s viewpoint and in-depth knowledge and proficiency with standard English
Must demonstrate ability to learn how to produce technical publications and to express technical IT concepts in language accessible to non-technical readers
Excellent writing ability that can be applied to the development of user guides, reference manuals, online help, and training materials
Strong technical, analytical, and verbal skills
Experience with audio and screen recording, video creation and editing software.
Experience with XML, HTML or other markup languages and the software development lifecycle
Experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint, Adobe InDesign / Creative Cloud, SnagIt
Experience in an analytic discipline is helpful
Good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently with little supervision and handle multiple assignments simultaneously
