The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC), a joint research center of Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, was established in 1986, and for over 35 years has provided university, government, and industrial researchers with access to several of the most powerful systems for advanced computational research, communications and data storage available to scientists, engineers, and scholars nationwide for unclassified research. PSC advances science across a wide spectrum of fields, including artificial intelligence/machine learning, medical imaging, weather modeling, cell biology, and genomics.
PSC is seeking a Communications Web Developer to join our Outreach and Engagement team, playing a key role in shaping how we share groundbreaking research with the world. In this role, you’ll contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of PSC’s web presence, ensuring our digital platforms are functional, user-friendly, and visually compelling. Core responsibilities include:
Install, configure, and customize CMS themes and plugins for PSC websites
Customize website by developing custom programs written in languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Python and Java to enhance user appeal, utility and overall site functionality
Assist with creating and managing website content
Assist in creating visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces for PSC websites
Perform routine website maintenance and updates to CMS frontend, themes, and plugins
Troubleshoot and resolve website issues as needed
Collaborate closely with communications team members and project teams to understand project requirements
Keep up with the latest UI/UX trends, technologies, and accessibility guidelines
Collaborate with colleagues to utilize SEO, Google Analytics, or other metrics tools to assess user engagement

Qualifications:
1-3 years experience in website development
Team player who can build strong relationships within all levels of the organization and across project teams
Ability to write and modify programs, using one or more of the following languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Python and Java
Proficiency in the use of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc)
Experienced with GitHub/GitLab
Proficient with WordPress CMS
Familiarity with CSS and JavaScript frameworks like Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, and React is a plus, but not required
Familiarity with Markdown
Experience SEO, Google Analytics, or other metrics tools
A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered

Work posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in-office presence of three days a week
Travel requirements: You should be able to travel both domestically and internationally and be willing to work outside normal business hours as needed. May require travel up to 15%
