Job Summary: The Computer Science Instructor will work directly with the Principal to provide instruction, support, guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs and performance. The Computer Science Instructor will monitor student progress through the identified learning management system and will actively work with students to advance each student’s learning toward established goals. General Duties: Planning and Preparation o Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of gaming/simulation curriculum o Understand overall diversity of assigned families and individual student characteristics; specifically, how this will impact planning for personalized learning o Use student data to drive instructional decision making and planning o Plan to ensure the inclusion of highly engaging student-centered tasks and activities that fill gaps in foundational learning, expose students to collaborative learning experiences and lead to conceptual personalized understanding of content. o Utilizing a structured planning framework, submit lesson plans on a weekly basis that reflect a solid understanding of the content, the students, and available resources. o Provide small group differentiated planning that reflects personalized learning opportunities for students. o Provide instructional outcomes that represent important learning suitable to students o Ensure elements of the instructional design, including assessments, align to goals. o Collaboratively plan with colleagues to meet the needs of all students within Professional Learning Communities o Analyze student data individually and collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities to drive instructional adaptations within the learning environment o Utilize instructional tools such as Google Apps for Education, online curriculum, and other resources to augment course content and submit planning and preparation documentation Instruction o Orient students to course and communicate course, unit and lesson outcomes on a routine basis o Maintain safe conditions during hands-on-learning o Deliver personalized instruction to help each student meet PA state standards o Utilize questioning, discussion techniques, and differentiated student tasks to ensure all students are engaged in learning o Demonstrate flexibility in contributing to the success of the lesson and of each student. o Adapt instruction to meet the learning needs of all students o Work with special education teacher to provide instruction that meets IEP requirements for special education students o Set and enforce deadlines for student work o Support parents with student curricular and instructional issues o Be responsible for student academic progress and student attendance o Conduct conferences with students and parents/caregiver o Grade student work and maintain grade book o Recommend promotion and retention o Maintain regular contact with students and families o Prepare students for state required testing o Attend IEP meetings as required o Complete Progress Reports for students o Alert administrators to any concerns about student performance and progress Professional Responsibilities o Maintain regular office hours, monitor student’s course work, conduct differentiated instructional classes, complete grading, take part in daily professional learning community meetings, participate in school meetings, and maintain accurate records o Demonstrate professionalism and high ethical standards in all interactions with students, parents/caregivers, and staff members o Communicate with families on a frequent basis o Participate in new teacher induction training if you are in your first or second year of teaching. o Engage in training and professional learning o Participate in observation/mentoring meetings o Engage in reflective practices by completing self-evaluations and building & managing employee professional growth plan o Align professional goals with school wide goals and the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching; participate in professional learning opportunities aligned with goals and Danielson Framework o Attend and participate in school-wide community events and school testing as required and assigned o Prepare reports as required o Proctor state testing o Compete in eSports competitions o Provide students the opportunity to participate in eSports or programming competitions. o Perform any other duties that may arise to fulfill the main objectives of the position and the mission of Midland Innovation + Technology Charter School. Eligibility: Required ? Bachelor’s Degree ? A minimum of three years full-time or the equivalent of part-time occupational experience in a computer science or game development occupations. ? Experience in programming languages such as Java Script, C#, and html ? Child Abuse Clearance (Current within the last year) ? Criminal History Clearance (Current within the last year) ? FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Current within the last year) ? Act 168 Clearance ? Excellent written and verbal communication skills ? Self-Motivated ? Have experience working with the proposed age groups and content area ? Have the ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g., database and web-based tools) ? Have the ability to support and guide students ? Be able to travel to team professional developments, and school wide events ? Follow all test security guidelines and Pennsylvania state law ? Ability to be flexible given the demands of the day and job Preferred ? Experience in programming in Java Script, C#, and html ? Valid and active Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate ? Experience in eSports ? 3+ years teaching experience in a high school setting ? Proficiency in MS Office, Google Apps for Education (Drive, Google Docs, Slides, Forms, Sheets) ? Experience using search engines such as Google Chrome ? Experience with, Google Sites, Open Educational Resources and LMSs ? Experience coordinating academically oriented clubs and extracurricular activities ? Knowledge of Danielson’s Framework for Teaching, Pennsylvania State Standards, and varied assessments ? Prior experience making academic progress with a range of student populations and needs ? Proven ability to use data to inform instruction ? About Midland Innovation + Technology Charter School
Building a better future begins with becoming the best version of yourself. The Midland Innovation + Technology Charter School is a new public high school that will provide students in grades 9 through 12 with the chance to tackle real-life projects and pursue areas of personal interest to prepare them for a world of opportunity. While completing state requirements for a high school diploma, students at MITCS will also earn certifications, licensing, and even associate degrees in trades and other areas of endeavor, and graduate prepared to enter the workforce or continue on through post-secondary education or training.
