Overview of Role: The Welder is responsible for performing high quality Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) on box and cylindrical chambers, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings, weld symbols, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role involves fitting, layout, welding in multiple positions, operating welding and cutting equipment, verifying dimensions using precision measuring tools, and completing required documentation. The position also requires collaboration with supervision and engineering, identification of drawing discrepancies, and adherence to all company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Strong working knowledge of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), including tungsten selection, shielding gas, flow rates, and amperage settings.
Ability to weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
Read and interpret moderately complex blueprints and most weld symbols.
Identify drawing discrepancies and communicate feedback to supervision.
Layout, fit, tack, and weld box and cylindrical chambers to drawing requirements with consistent quality.
Safely operate welding support equipment, including floormounted rotary positioners.
Proficient with measuring tools (calipers, rulers, feeler gauges, pi tapes) to verify decimal tolerances.
Use plasma cutting equipment to achieve proper fitup.
Complete moderately complex documentation with minimal assistance.
Comply with all company policies, including safety and HR requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required
High School Diploma or GED
4-7 years working experience using the gas tungsten arc welding process
Solid understanding of mathematics, and the ability to read mechanical drawings
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, twist and lift up to and including 60 lbs. unassisted. Assistance must be used for any items over this weight. Assistance is always required for anything weighing over 60 lbs.
Qualified to operate 5 Ton Crane
Preferred
Certificate from a vocational or trade school and/or junior or community college
Completion of an accredited welding apprenticeship program
