eNGINE is partnering with a leading financial institution to hire a hands-on developer eager to bring automation, efficiency, and fresh perspective to a legacy mainframe environment. This role offers the chance to influence process improvements within a team. This role requires candidates to work onsite 4x/week downtown, so applicants must be local to Pittsburgh.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, write, modify, and debug COBOL code for enterprise-level mainframe systems.
Interface with DB2 databases and ensure performance and data integrity.
Develop and support CICS transaction-based applications.
Navigate and work across core mainframe tools like IBM JCL, MVS, ISPF, Easytrieve, and Compuware File-Aid.
Analyze business needs and translate them into efficient, scalable code and automated solutions.
Lead testing, debugging, and documentation efforts to ensure high code quality.
Collaborate cross-functionally with business analysts, developers, and infrastructure teams to meet project goals.
Required Skills & Experience:
Expert-level experience in COBOL programming within a mainframe environment.
Deep working knowledge of DB2, CICS, and IBM mainframe utilities.
Proven experience with JCL, ISPF, and file management tools such as File-Aid.
Strong problem-solving capabilities and an eye for modernization and automation opportunities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
Nice to Have:
Experience in the financial services industry (e.g., banking, investment, capital markets).
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
